City of Sarasota Takes Final Vote on Partial Plastic Ban

SARASOTA -- Sarasota city commissioners are expected to take a final vote today on an ordinance banning businesses contracting with the city or using city property for concessions from using styrofoam containers and plastic straws. Jenna Haefling with the group "Rethinking Plastic" supports the ordinance, saying its needed to protect wildlife and reduce use of fossil fuels.

State law say it's illegal to ban styrofoam containers on private property.

A bill that would outlaw straw bans passed the Legislature but got vetoed by Governor Ron DeSantis.
