Sarah Fuller, First Woman To Kick In Power 5 Game, To Speak At Inauguration

Former Vanderbilt kicker Sarah Fuller has accepted an invite to speak at President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration on Wednesday (January 20.)

Fuller, who became the first woman to kick and score a point in an FBS Power 5 college football game this past season, announced her participation in the event on her Twitter account Sunday (January 17.)

"It's an honor to be invited to participate in one of America's greatest traditions," Fuller tweeted alongside photos of herself standing on behind an end zone at Vanderbilt Stadium. "This historic inauguration is especially meaningful for American women and girls. The glass ceilings are breaking and it is the time to #LeadLikeAWoman."

Fuller was among the names listed by the Presidential inaugural Committee on Sunday who will be highlighted during the "Celebrating America" event, which will feature remarks and performances from President-elect Biden, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and numerous other celebrities and "American heroes."

Fuller became the first woman to score a point in an FBS Power 5 college football game during the Commodores' game against in-state rival Tennessee in Nashville on December 12, one week after becoming the first female to appear in a Power 5 conference college football game during Vandy's game against Missouri.

Fuller successfully made a PAT after Vanderbilt scored a touchdown in the final 1:50 of the first quarter in the Tennessee game.

Fuller, the starting goalkeeper on the Vanderbilt women's soccer team, was the Commodores' primary kicker in their game at Missouri, kicking off the second half of the game against with a squib kick to the Missouri 35-yard-line.

Wednesday's inauguration is planned to be largely virtual due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic even prior to the incident at the Capitol on January 6, which has since led to heightened security in Washington, D.C.
