Publix Limits Moderna Vaccine Appointment-Setting To Fridays

Publix announced on Thursday that it will not be opening its Florida online reservation system for the COVID-19 vaccine on Mondays.

The supermarket chain had been letting residents set appointments for the Moderna vaccine on Mondays and Fridays, but will now only open the site for Moderna on Fridays.

Publix gave no official reason for the change, but it could be a waning demand. After Florida lowered its age requirement for the coronavirus shots to 40 and above late last month, there was a bump in demand on the grocery store's website, followed by a short-term increase last Friday, the first time those ages 18 to 39 were eligible to schedule an appointment.

But appointments remained available in several Florida counties several hours after the reservation system opened at 7 a.m. on Friday.

Customers with appointments for their second dose of the Moderna vaccine are not impact by any changes in scheduling opportunities and Publix says it will continue opening the website on Wednesdays for those who want to schedule the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
